Hey everyone, for the 7 of us who came down for our very first CIP session today, thanks alot! :D I'm quite apologetic that you all have to start work on shelving the books today despite my earlier message that it's only a briefing. Sorry! But in any case, good job! I don't think we're really that slow, anyway. :D *saigang warriors!*

Volunteer Recruitment for J.P.Morgan Kiddoletics
@ the Park! 2009

The Kids Inclusive Sports Club (KISC), an initiative
under the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC),
is currently seeking warm-hearted volunteers for an
exciting half- day event that's coming up in February.

Details of the event are as follows:

Event: JPMorgan Kiddoletics @ the Park! 2009
Date: 28 February 2009, Saturday
Time: 9:30am to 1:30pm (Reporting time for volunteers is 8:00am.)
Venue: East Coast Park – Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) Campus

*Free parking is available at Car Park F3.

This event is aimed at increasing the amount of sports awareness for both abled and disabled children from a young age in a day of activities mainly related to track and field. Besides providing the children with a fun-filled day, we also aim to:
· Allow kids of mixed abilities to experience various introductory athletics games in a fun and engaging manner
· Foster interest in basic motor skills building activities through a variety of teaching methods
· Promote the awareness of adapted track and field activities and disability sports in Singapore
· Educate teachers and trainers about adapted sports
· Promote inclusiveness in mainstream sports for children with disability
· Encourage interaction and understanding between kids of mixed abilities
· Encourage peer support between kids of mixed abilities
· Provide opportunities for children to uncover passion or talents in athletics

However, to carry out this event successfully, we need the help of kind and energetic volunteers! There are many different areas, which you can help us out with. Please see the next page for details!

Game Masters
Masters will explain, demonstrate and direct the activities to be played at their station. They will also keep time, judge results and call for medical help or attention if required.

2 masters will be stationed at each station.
Masters must have had experience and knowledge in handling children with disability.

Coaches, sports staff, teachers trained in special education are preferred.

Age: Above 18

Game Assistants
Assistants will help game masters to guide children in the activities and create a lively atmosphere to encourage them in action

10 assistants will be attached to each station.

Assistants must be attentive to the children's needs and sport an outgoing character.

Leaders will be tasked to steer their groups towards the correct stations, and ensure discipline / well-being of the children.

Photographers are tasked to capture moments of the children and volunteers in action.

F&B helpers will prepare and distribute the morning snacks and lunches, as well as prepare materials for the mass picnic.
F&B Helpers must know and practice sanitary hygiene. Preferably female.

Shall post something about physics lessons here for those not taking physics or not in the main physics class =) (why physics? duh, look who's posting)

We should all learn to appreciate our dear physics tutor more!
Which other tutor ends lecture early cos he has photo-taking or cos the air-con is spoilt?
Which other tutor is so concerned about his students not being able to see the stuff on the screen clearly?
Which other tutor tries to show us fringe pattern via the visualiser and concludes that the thing not working when he was pointing the laser at himself unknowingly?

I'm sure one way or another he has motivated us to do well for physics, no?

We did well and got 5th placing! =D
It was all due to the teamwork you all have put in! I saw great amounts of rapport amongst the 6 of us! Even though we couldn't clinch the top, but being the top 5 teams in NJC is still an honour! We have brought some glory to our class!
From this, i believe the 6 of us have bonded even more and became even closer than before!
And in view of this, I have a proposal! Since Thursdays we start school late, why don't we organise a class bonding session on Thursday mornings! Those who can make it can join in the fun! We can play games etc.

And as a reward for all the hard work Ballz has put in for this competition, I will treat all Ballz members to a drink tomorrow! =D

I noticed that this blog is dead again, so I shall attempt to revive it! XDD
And I think there are only a few people who even visit/post on/tag on this blog, that is what makes it so dead, so everyone, visit this blog more ok? And tag/post as much as you can!

As you all know, there is now a night mugging system to let everyone mug in school till 9pm at the canteen extension, and I happen to realize that this is an effective way for people who are easily distracted to mug effectively, though not just limited to them. Furthermore, from my observation, nobody from our class has been mugging there, and its quite quiet, so anyone who is interested to mug after school can come find me, the ULTIMATE MUGGER (Elvin) !!! Muhahaha! Then maybe can go dinner after night mugging! XDD

Mugging together = Good class bonding session!
Somemore got friends/teachers/seniors that can ask if you don't know how to do, its a win-win situation!

Here's a nice story i received in a chain mail =)

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd.' I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, 'Those guys are jerks. ' They really should get lives. ' He looked at me and said, 'Hey thanks!' There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.

He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday! ' He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.. When we were seniors we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem..

He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship.. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak

Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous! Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!' He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. ' Thanks,' he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began 'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends... I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story.'

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.

He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. 'Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.'

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others.

'Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.' There is no beginning or end.. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift..

Hey guys, due to not having sufficient man power if 1 group goes to only 1 session, Gerald has came up with the following plan.

As all know, we have a farewell BBQ for Mr.Gilbert Lee this sunday 8th June.

Our BBQ pit is in Area C. Its pit 16.
We will meet at 3.30pm at Bedok MRT control station. Gerald will be ur guide to ECP so if u're like 5 min late and want everybody to wait a little while then call him. Or else he will just leave with everybody who is present.
Hoping to play some games/cycle/blahblah before BBQ starts at 6.30pm.
Feel free to bring any form of entertainment/beach mats/beach chairs/tents/frisbee etc.
Those who will be late please make your own way there.
Assuming full attendance, each person should only pay $5 for the BBQ :D There will be a refund of extra $$$.
Any last minute absence/dissapearance/pangseh/CMI/MIA please let me know ASAP. So far only 2 won't be attending the BBQ.

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked.It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

HEY peeps! Almost one week of June holidays have passed! How're you guys doing?
Kept hearing that you all have GP lectures and whatnot. Ah, my immense sympathies. :D

Okie-dokie...here's something to distract you with, in case some of you are feeling bored and are sitting glumly in front of your comps. Ahahah...

40 Fun Things to do in an Elevator
1. Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering, 'Shut up, dammit, all of you just shut UP!'
2. Whistle the first seven notes of 'It's a Small World' incessantly.
3. Sell Girl Scout cookies.
4. On a long ride, sway side to side at the natural frequency of the elevator.
5. Shave.
6. Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside ask: 'Got enough air in there?'
7. Offer name tags to everyone getting on the elevator. Wear yours upside-down.
8. Stand silent and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.
9. When arriving at your floor, grunt and strain to yank the doors open, then act embarrassed when they open by themselves.
10. Greet everyone getting on the elevator with a warm handshake and ask them to call you Admiral.
11. On the highest floor, hold the door open and demand that it stay open until you hear the penny you dropped down the shaft go 'plink' at the bottom.

Good job for college day! though we didnt get to sell our own food, great job at ushering, and for the few of us, at collecting money too!

Anw, next wed is relay championships!
so there's some stuff i need u guys to help out with.

1. Get an empty drink can, wash it, dry it. And put beans/rice in it. Then seal it. And bring on tues =) haha i m sure u all can guess what it is for. i'll bring red paper on tues so that we can wrap the cans to make them red!
[must do ok! it's just a simple thing yea. thsk!]

2. The ignis hat is painting new banners for relay championships next monday! do come down to the banner-painting area and help paint if you're free =) will update tmr abt the time that we'd be around.

3. Go memorise the ignis cheer k. i'll ask for permission if can put the new cheer on this blog, n if can, i'll put it up by tmr =)

House session! this was the first for the pae-non-ignis pple right? hope u all enjoyed it! i think the game was very funny [with n.vidhya having the longest hair in ignis n sean having the largest bicep muscles in ignis] but yeah i dunno what happened after i left for the other LT, but hope u all had a good time cheering. and hope u all enjoyed the pringles =)

We are all dismissed at 2pm tmr! really really. BUT [there's always a but] we all have to go set up the ignis stalls at the canteen for college day! i know many of u really dun wanna help, BUT [see there's always a but] come on, dun u feel bad if u dun do anything at all? so come down to the canteen area by 2.15pm yea! we will have to collect tables n benches for the stalls, and put up the banners, and make menus, and posters to advertise too! our class is in charge of deco after all, but well we havent been helping much with the banner-painting, right? so tmr afternn, for IGNIS!

The barometer question is a well-known urban legend in academia. It has multiple different forms, but all are based around the same thing: an examination paper in Physics which includes the question,

"How would you measure the height of a tall building using an aneroid barometer?"

As an urban legend, there has never been any confirmed record of this question having appeared in an exam paper.
The presumed intended answer is that it could be done by comparing the barometer readings at the top and bottom of the building; however, the urban legend is based on a student - or several students - giving other answers which are completely correct but not the intended one. Example answers include:
• Tying the barometer to the end of a piece of string, lowering the barometer from the top of the building and then measuring the length of the string and barometer once the barometer touches the ground (some say this answer was provided by a young Niels Bohr);
• Lowering the barometer from the top of the building on a piece of string, then swinging it like a pendulum and measuring the period of its oscillation;
• Using a shorter piece of string measure the period of the makeshift pendulum at the top and bottom of the building. Use the two values to determine the change in gravitational force and therefore the height of the building;
• Throwing the barometer off the top of the building and measuring how long it takes to hit the ground;
• Measuring the barometer, then placing the barometer against the building, marking the top, placing the barometer above the mark, marking the new top, and so on until the building has been measured in baro-meters;

This is no different from using any other agreed-upon standard, such as a yardstick.
Asking the custodian is invalid, since at no point is a measurement made.
